Shockwaves Hairspray Review

8/27/2013 goodbyegone 1 Comments

After running out of my beloved L'Óreal hairspray, I rushed to the shop to pick up some more. After looking at the big selection of hairsprays I decided that it was time for me to step out of my comfort zone and try a new one. With it's bright blue and red, very shiny packaging, the 'Shockwaves Ultra Strong Power Hold' hairspray instantly caught my eye. After reading what it has to offer and at only £2.50, I decided to purchase it as it wasn't really a big loss if I ended up not being very happy with it.

The product claims to:
  • Keep your style just as you styled it.
  • Finish off your style with a dose of shine.
  • Long-lasting hold.
  • Brushes out easily.
  • Doesn't leave hair sticky.
A lot of hairsprays that I've tried claim all of this but very few deliver (even high-end products). However, this particular product seemed to be like a needle in a haystack of drugstore & high-end products.
As I have naturally wavy (almost fully straight) hair, when I curl it, it tends to fall during the course of the day but when I sprayed this over my curls, the style stayed throughout the day AND left me with nice beachy waves for the next day. Although I didn't notice my hair to be any more shiny than usual, I wasn't left with a stick head and when I brought a brush through my hair, it all stayed on my head.

*excuse the photos, I'd taken them about 200 times and they still came out like this*

Overall, I was very, very happy with this hairspray and I will definitely be repurchasing it and I would highly recommend you do the same! :)

Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored, I bought the product with my own money and all opinions are my own.

A Day At Fota Island

8/25/2013 goodbyegone 0 Comments

Recently I went on a little trip down to Cork. Although I was desperate to get home, I really did have a good time. During our trip we went to 'Fota Island', a wildlife park about 40 minutes away from our hotel. I'm not usually one for these kind of excursions as 16 years worth of trips to the Zoo has done me out, however, this was so different from anywhere I;d been and I loved it. From watching Cheetahs feed the way they would in the wild to being inches away from a kangaroo, I would recommend this place to anyone in a heartbeat.

Have you been anywhere like this before? If not, you should! :)

I Heart Summer Tag

8/12/2013 goodbyegone 1 Comments

So I recently started a YouTube channel, what?! I decided it'd be a nice little hobby for me and it'd be so much easier for me to explain tutorials and things to you all. I'm definitely not gonna stop my blog but the two will coincide once in a while :)

Here's my first video:

Annnnd here's a little break down of all the questions and products mentioned and why I chose them:

1. Favorite bronzer for summer?

Don't use it! Looks horrible on my skin and I just don't suit it.

2. You're relaxing in a hammock, on a tropical island. What are you sipping on? (Favorite summer drink)

Iced caramel latte! Caramel lattes are probably my most favourite drink ever and I drink them all year round!

3. Favorite summer lip product?

Vaseline or the I love... Strawberry Milkshake lip balm. Both of these products just help keep my lips soft and moisturized. Also the 'I love...' lip balm gives your lips a nice tint and smells delish.

4. Pool or Beach?

Beach! :) I like having fun and having space to enjoy the day which the beach offers. The pool can often be quite cramped and it's kind of hard to enjoy your time there.

5. Summer = crazy hair! What's your must-have styling product?

Schwarzkopf (which I can't say) texturizing salt spray: This gives you really nice beachy waves and doesn't leave your hair feeling sticky so it's great!
No7 hair protecting spritz: gives your hair a nice layer of protection. What I love about this is that it doesn't smell bad and it doesn't make your hair feel any different :)

6. Sun bathing or fake tan?

Sunbathing. I can't use fake tan, hahaha. It always looks HORRIBLE on me. Soooo, definitely sunbathing.

7. Favorite summer nail polish?

Any light, pastel-y colour! They're just so nice and girly and are great for the summertime!

8. Any summer traditions?

Going on holidayyyyy :)

9. Favorite summer scent?

Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift & Taylor by Taylor Swift. They both just smell unbelievably good and really remind me of summer when I smell them :)

10. Favorite BBQ food?

Everything.

11. What's your favorite summer-proof product?

Suncream 'cause it protects you from the sun. Foolproof :P And deodorant so you don't feel icky when it's warm out!

12. Any summer vacation plans this year? No plans? Tell us about your dream summer trip!

Plans: down south for 5 days next week!
Dream: Nashville or L.A as I''m in love with those two places.

Thanks for reading/watching! :)

Handwritten Letters

8/02/2013 goodbyegone 3 Comments

I just wrote a letter. A hand written letter, on paper, ready to drop in the postbox.

In the modern days of e-mail and text messaging, Facebook and twitter - I have noticed that this way of communication has vastly took a plane trip into the past. When we want to talk to someone now, we just pick up the phone or we open up a new e-mail, it's quick and easy and it means we get our response ASAP.

However, as sincere as it may be, it just doesn't let off the same relief or feeling as a letter does.

I say this meaning that, when writing a letter there's a sense of relief about finally getting your emotions out. They're right there in front of you, on that piece of paper.

The most beautiful thing about writing a letter is that you can actually see your emotions in your writing. You can see where you were excited - your writing got all messy as you were throwing it out so quick, where you weren't sure what to say next - a few spots of ink where you were going to write but didn't, where your words were 110% from your heart - your writing is shaky as you were scared but relieved to get the words out.

A letter, to me, is so much more beautiful and heartfelt than an e-mail or a text message and even though it's not convenient and it's quite time consuming, let me tell you, it feels so much better to write out your feelings and know that someone is going to open this letter and see exactly what you mean and how you felt when writing it.

The next time you want to tell somebody how you feel or just share your feelings with them, write it down. I promise you, it'll do you good (and they'll be super flattered that you took the time to do it).

Yours truly, Lauren. xo
